Foreign Object In The Eyes: First Aid

If some foreign object gets into your eyes, you can follow few first aid steps to flush out the object from the eyes.

If you are alone, you can immerse your eye into a glass or broad cup full of water, positioning your eye in the cup, with the eye socket resting on the rim.

Blinking your eyes several times in the water of cup may flush out the grit or the foreign object from the eye.

You can help other who has foreign body in the eye. The following are the first aid steps to flush out the object from the eye:

Wash your hands thoroughly before you put them into other’s eyes.

Have the person to seat in well-lighted area or before mirror (if you are alone). Inspect the eye carefully.

Ask the person to separate the eye lids. Instruct him to look down wards; you should assess all the areas of the eye.

If the object can be observed on the transparent film of the eye you can try to flush it out using the saline solution. Do this for one to two times. If still it does not work you should seek the medical help.
The eye doctor may do eye irrigation if required to remove the object.

Some don’ts:
Do not rub your eyes.

Do not attempt to remove the metal rust from the eye; immediately consult the doctor.

Do not try to remove the objects that are deeply situated in the eyes.

Do not use any eye drops unless prescribed by the doctor.
